    Rocks

The size of rock refers to the amount of fines or dirt that passes through the screening process and ends up in the final product. The three most common size variances include minus, screened, and rip rap. “Minus” rock can contain up to 80% fines, making it look more like a pile of sand with a little rock content. “Screened” rock typically contains between 20% and 40% fines while, “Rap Rap” is considered chunky material.

    • Keeping soil cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter

    What is a Cubic Yard?

    • A cubic yard is VOLUME. When you are laying down landscape material, you should always measure the area you want to cover. Length x Width x Depth. This will give you the VOLUME of material needed. No matter which material you order (gravel, sand, soil, etc.) for your project, it will be the same amount every time. If you order by tonnage, it will vary immensely between products.

    • An example, let’s say you’re creating a path and you are trying to decide between laying a 1″ gravel down or you might decide to use one of the pathway road base products.  If you order in volume (cubic yards) by what you need, it doesn’t matter if you change your mind and decide to do gravel, soil, sand, etc, because it is the same amount every time. On the other hand, ordering by tons and changing your mind can leave you short.

    • You would initially order 8 tons of one-inch (1″) standard construction gravel for your walkway because that’s what you figured or were told needed. Our 1″ standard construction gravel weighs 1.40 tons per yard. If you order 8 tons of that particular gravel, you have approximately roughly 5.71 yards.

    • We recommend more depth under each of our products and an online calculator to get you precisely what you need. Remember, just like any other home improvement project, you should slightly overestimate what you need by about 15-20%.

    Minimum Purchase

No, The minimum amount we will offer of rock is 2-5 tons (if product is sold by weight) or 2-5 cubic yards of material (if product is sold by volume). If you need less than that, we recommend that you pick it up yourself in a pickup truck or truck and trailer.  Unfortunately, a minimum price will apply

    Washed Gravel

No, the materials are screened to size and clean of debris, but they are not washed through wash plants. They may contain dust and small percentages of fines (dirt).

    RV Pad/ Driveway

You can use either our 3/4″ Crushed roadbase, 1″ Gravel, or 1-1/2” premium Gravel for driveways and RV Pads. Going smaller than 3/4″ the rocks will move around and vehicles will likely sink in. Going larger than 1” while it works, it may also feel too large while walking on it. But much of this is up to customers' preference.

  • Roadbase

State Spec vs. Commercial Road Base

State Spec meets the guidelines put out by UDOT for Road Base, while Commercial Road Base does not meet the same guidelines.  Our Crushed Road Base is made using Natural Sand and Gravel instead of Recycling Concrete into the mixture. They all compact well and work the same as road base.  But when doing a job that requires “spec” material, use Utah State specified material when required, or when doing a private job, you are able to use our ¾” Commercial Road Base

Awesome pit! I come here all the time for material and all of the employees are super fast and super nice!

Jake Baggs

They have a variety of the best gravels (1-1/2" Gravel), landscape rock (boulders), and engineered materials (3" minus) in Northern Utah. I was impressed by the construction services available.
